Fall 2018 Session

Tuesdays 9/11-12/4; 10am-3pm

Program Overview:

The SolutionHeirs is a theme centered interdisciplinary program that integrates learning in the world with being of the world. Based on the traditional Native American practices of reciprocity, the SolutionHeirs will use science, art, culture, language and play/connection to explore the link between living in and giving back to our planet Earth.

Our Fall 2018 twelve week program will include a morning exploration of environmental science as we look at the waste we create and the current solutions available for sustainable waste management.  During our semester we will visit a local composting business, a glass art making workshop, a recycling plant, and host guest artists to help us create a collective art project with recycled materials.

For our afternoon time we will dive into the language and culture section of our program, where we learn basic conversational Spanish and explore indigenous cultures and life in Mexico.  Along with language learning, our support staff of educators and artists from Mexico will take us on virtual trips to various locations in Mexico.

As part of our day, we will have an hour of free play as a primary way for building connection, expanding emotional intelligence and integrating self directed learning. For our end of session, we will host  a community share presentation where the children will present the solutions to waste that we discover and come up with through our journey.  A gallery of art and journal work will be displayed.
